Veterans & songwriters write two new songs at Discovery Park of America

Operation Song® had the honor to participate for the third straight year in the Discovery Park of America Military History and Armed Forces Symposium. The Symposium, which was held Apr 28-29, 2023, featured a variety of programs and interactive activities that explore the American military’s past, present and future. Operation Song® performed for a military only audience on Friday night, followed by a songwriting session with two veterans — Bruce Hines and Ed Bickert — on Saturday with songwriters David Kent and Jason Sever. The Veterans’ songs — “Here’s To The Key” and “Shots in The Dark” — were performed live that afternoon.

The performance was open to anyone attending the event that day. Cindy Kent, author and wife of our very own David Kent, spoke at the symposium about her book “Better Men: Alpha Upsilon in Vietnam,” in which she sheds light on the camaraderie of 14 fraternity brothers from Alpha Gamma Rho’s Alpha Upsilon Chapter at the University of Tennessee Martin who became brothers in service in Vietnam between 1964 and 1972.

We thank the Discovery Park for allowing us to be a part of this special event and look forward to it again next year!

Discovery Park of America is located at 830 Everett Blvd. in Union City, TN.

Humvees were placed in front of Discovery Park of America for the Military History & Armed Forces Symposium.
