WUTC's "Operation Song" Special Wins Golden Press Card Award

The East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists recognized WUTC 88.1 during the Golden Press Card Awards ceremony that took place April 30, 2017.

WUTC's Operation Song Memorial Day Special was awarded second place in the Documentary/Public Affairs Programming – Radio category.

The hour-long special featured segments from Operation Song, a Nashville-based nonprofit organization that empowers veterans, active duty military and their families to tell their stories through songwriting.

On Memorial Day 2016, audiences around the world heard the special via the American Forces Radio Network, which reaches 400,000 military personnel, Department of Defense civilians, and their families.

WUTC's Michael Edward Miller, Richard Winham, and Mary Ollie Newman produced the program.
